  記者玲(李心潔飾)的男友Peter獲得一宗刑事案件的新聞線報(bào),前去取證途中突然遭遇交通事故意外身亡。玲覺得事有蹊蹺,調(diào)查后發(fā)現(xiàn)一宗模特命案。女模特Helen裸死于家中浴缸,富豪之子張承志沒有不在場證據(jù),但事件竟被警方低調(diào)處理,張承志的相關(guān)證據(jù)也被消除。玲為不愿男友枉死,誓要調(diào)查出事件真相,但報(bào)社總編輯曾達(dá)時(shí)(梁家輝飾)卻不愿為玲伸出援手。無奈之下,玲只好求助常常被追債的飛(黃秋生飾)與馬仔(葛民灰)幫助她調(diào)查真相。飛原來是警察出身,在調(diào)查中,他發(fā)現(xiàn)Peter的死因確有蹊蹺。隨著調(diào)查的進(jìn)行,黑暗中的黑手不斷想將玲置于死地,究竟事件的真相能否登上報(bào)紙的A1頭條?真相與言論自由的賽跑,在香港的午夜開始。

  Set in an underground dungeon inhabited by bundled, ragged human beings, after the nuclear holocaust. The story follows the wanderings of a hero through the situations of survival. People wait for the Ark to arrive and rescue them while their habitat falls apart.  Delving deep into the dusty and long abandonded vaults of b-cinema in search of lost gems always leaves me with a bittersweet taste. On one hand the discovery of unexpected gems where no one would think them possible is a rewarding experience. On the other hand though it makes one wonder how many of these remarkable low-budget oddities, personal love affairs of directors never quite famous and now all but forgotten, have almost forever slipped from memory?  n any case what we have here is a little post-apocalyptic gem from Poland that is really better than it has any right to. The dystopian near future of O-BI, O-BA finds a group of survivors of the nuclear war that ravaged the Earth inhabiting an underworld concrete bunker and biding their time as they wait for the mysterious Ark, an air ship of some kind that will come and save them. The Ark proves to be an elaborate hoax, carefully designed to give hope to the malnourished and desperate denizens of the bunker, while in the meantime the dome that separates their miserable existence from the nuclear winter outside is slowly caving in.  What first striked me about the movie is the design of the bunker and the depiction of the survivors. The survivors are gaunt, filthy and terrible-looking penitents, dressed in rags and aimlessly wandering the neon-lit halls of the bunker like automatons. The bunker is a rundown, seedy place, with bright neon lights peering from all sides like the eyes of malignant beasts.  On one hand it is a slightly 80's depiction of the dystopian future but the movie never stoops down to MAD MAX cheese. Instead it combines biting political satire with the bleak outlook of a world with no future, black comedy with barbs on apathy, religion and power. The survivors, for example, are fed some kind of flour dropping from a tube that hovers in the air - later on we discover the food supervisor uses books and the Bible itself as filler for this meagre meal. There are many such short symbolic touches, perhaps not life-changing or faith-restoring, yet playful, clever and inspired.  One thing is for sure; O-BI, O-BA is not your run-of-the-mill sci-fi schlock. It overcomes its modest budget with creativity and has genuine artistic aspirations both from a writing and directing perspective. My opinion is that it should have been filmed in black and white instead of colour though. The director uses atmospheric light and shadow to great effect and it would have registered even better in stark black and white. The blue-green neon on the other hand outstays its welcome after a while. Just a minor gripe in an otherwise solid b-movie with its heart set in all the right places.  Imagine a less bleak THE ROAD (Cormac McCarthy) being injected with the satire and humour of DR.STRANGELOVE and you're getting there. See it if you can find it.

職業(yè)拳擊手神山英次在菲律賓試圖東山再起,卻始終未能獲得比賽機(jī)會,轉(zhuǎn)眼已至不惑之年。就在此時(shí),長期失聯(lián)的女兒桃子突然造訪,命運(yùn)的齒輪由此轉(zhuǎn)動(dòng)。失去母親后無處可去的桃子,漂洋過海來投奔父親。   異國菲律賓的屋檐下,這對父女開始了生澀的同居生活。血緣的羈絆難以輕易填補(bǔ)十余年的空白,兩人笨拙地摸索著親子關(guān)系的形狀。   女兒身上總帶著“另一個(gè)自己”的影子,這段充滿磕絆卻暗藏溫情的日常,讓曾經(jīng)視野狹隘的神山逐漸學(xué)會環(huán)視周遭——塬來注視著他的,不止是桃子,還有更多人的目光……   當(dāng)比賽機(jī)會奇跡般降臨,英次為贏得屬于他們的容身之處毅然踏上擂臺。這部以拳擊為背景的作品,最終講述的是關(guān)于“父”與“子”共同成長的生命物語。
