影片改編自巴西作家、記者、政治活動(dòng)家（某組織人）阿爾瓦羅 ;卡爾達(dá)斯（ Aacute;lvaro Caldas）發(fā)表于1993年的小說(shuō)《烏托邦的芭蕾》（Bal eacute; da Utopia）。 巴西軍事獨(dú)裁統(tǒng)治的20世紀(jì)70年代的貝洛哈里桑塔。年輕的女大學(xué)生克里斯蒂安娜Cristiana（梅爾;利斯博阿飾）崇拜她的文學(xué)教授紹洛 Saulo（費(fèi)利佩 卡馬戈飾），紹洛也愛(ài)上了他的這個(gè)學(xué)生。由于克里斯蒂安娜是個(gè)遭到當(dāng)局追捕的處境十分危險(xiǎn)的激進(jìn)分子，同情武裝革命的紹洛便將她藏匿在一間公寓里，兩人過(guò)著既緊張又浪漫的生活。后來(lái)一個(gè)受了傷總是蒙著面的武裝瓦斯拉夫Vaslav（塞爾吉奧 馬羅內(nèi)飾）也被困到這間公寓里。他們?nèi)松畹搅艘黄?，談?wù)摵陀懻撍麄兊纳睢⒄芜x擇。紹洛不在的時(shí)候，克里斯蒂安娜與瓦斯拉夫有了更深的交流，漸漸地，她愛(ài)上了這個(gè)芭蕾舞舞蹈家，于是，革命的愛(ài)情在忠誠(chéng)、背叛與欲望間搖擺，引發(fā)了她和她的情人紹洛之間的嚴(yán)重問(wèn)題并使紹洛做出了抉擇。
