某紡織廠的音樂部教師東植對錦川發(fā)生的一起殺人事件表示出極大的興趣?! ∧程?,東植從女工郭善英處收到一封情書,并向舍監(jiān)告發(fā),善英被工廠開除。曾鼓勵善英寫信的朋友趙慶熙借著鋼琴輔導(dǎo)的契機開始出入東植家。為了貼補家計,東植妻子做了很多裁縫活兒,身體越來越虛弱。東植委托慶熙尋找到一名合適的下女,幫助持家。妻子懷孕回娘家的當下,慶熙借機向東植表達了愛意,卻受到辱蔑被攆了出去。這一切都被窗外的下女看到眼里。下女借機誘惑東植,并與之發(fā)生了肉體關(guān)系。三個月后,下女懷孕。東植的妻子知道真相后,將下女推下樓梯,導(dǎo)致流產(chǎn)。失去孩子的下女怒火中燒,性情開始變得暴烈。結(jié)果,下女將東植夫婦倆的孩子也推下樓梯,藏了起來。下女以向工廠曝光所有事實相要挾。為了保住整個家庭,東植將二層的房間讓給下女。最后,準備和下女一起吃耗子藥自殺的東植看到死在臺階上的下女,毅然拋棄了她,重新回到了妻子身邊。這時,電影畫面再次回到東植夫婦看著有關(guān)那起殺人新聞的畫面,東植不禁說道:這樣的事情有可能發(fā)生在任何一個人的身上。

Ay?e, Ali, Mehmet and Zeynep are middle-class millennials struggling to make ends meet in Istanbul. Either still living with their parents or hardly getting by without help from their families, they are all beset by similar woes: money crunch, joblessness, social isolation. In view of the world’s horrors that Zeynep enumerates in her diary entries, these are minor problems, ‘slight disasters’, but they are all-consuming, at least to the extent of making them cry in the still of the night. However, Umut Subasi’s first feature, Almost Entirely a Slight Disaster, is not a melodrama. With an appealingly light touch, it diagnoses the malaise of a generation that has run up against a dead end, one whose future prospects are indistinguishable from a game of chance. This is a world where astrology, the lottery and online personality tests compete with visa and job applications as life-shaping elements. Fittingly, the film is structured around chance and coincidence, with its handful of characters encountering each other in every permutation, as though there were no world outside this small social bubble.
