 根據(jù)水門事件揭發(fā)人Carl Bernstein和Bob Woodward所寫自傳改編的電影。二人是《華盛頓郵報(bào)》的記者，在水門事件里，他們歷盡艱辛揭開政治黑幕，人物和事件一同成為美國一段家喻戶曉的歷史。故事由五名盜賊開始，他們潛入水門大度行竊。本來是一樁不甚重大的刑事案件，卻在Bernstein（達(dá)斯汀·霍夫曼Dustin Hoffman 飾）和Woodward（羅伯特·雷德福Robert Redford  飾）的追查下，最終撕開了一條大裂縫，矛頭直指總統(tǒng)尼克松。從1972年到1974年，從尼克松競選總統(tǒng)到尼克松連任上臺，華盛頓郵報(bào)受到的壓力越來越大，甚至被威脅。主編本·布萊德利站在了新聞自由和相信自己記者的這邊，Bernstein和Woodward得以繼續(xù)追尋事件真相，得到了重要線人“深喉”的幫助，經(jīng)歷了難以想象的曲折艱辛后，水門事件最終導(dǎo)致尼克松總統(tǒng)下臺。
