　　暑假來臨，大學(xué)新生劉易斯·托馬斯（保羅·沃克爾 Paul Walker 飾）決定穿州過省，前往新澤西去看望他自高中時代便喜歡的女孩維娜·威爾柯斯（Leelee Sobieski 飾）。為了打發(fā)旅途上的無聊時光，他將正因酒后駕車蹲局子的老哥富勒（史蒂夫·贊恩 Steve Zahn 飾）保釋出來，兄弟倆一路通行。　　旅途中，富勒買了一部車載對講機(jī)，與其他的司機(jī)扯皮聊天。期間他們搭上一個綽號“銹釘”的卡車司機(jī)，富勒突發(fā)奇想，慫恿弟弟假扮女人用對講機(jī)勾引銹釘。對他們來說，這似乎是旅途中一個無傷大雅、轉(zhuǎn)眼就忘的玩笑。沒想到他們卻惹上了這個難纏和恐怖的家伙。在接下來的時間里，銹釘成為劉易斯、富勒和維娜難以擺脫的噩夢……
